Corner Bead with Mesh- No Nose
This is the most popular type of bead when installing thin coat render systems. The corner bead consists of a rigid PVC 90-degree angle, with two ‘wings’ of fibreglass mesh (100mm and 150mm).
The corner bead gets embedded on all external corners of a render only or external wall insulation system within the cementitious basecoat layer.
The purpose of the corner bead is twofold, firstly it helps provide nice accurate 90-degree corners on a building. The thin coat corner bead also helps protect the corner against impact damage.
The corner bead is 2.5m in length. It is completely embedded within the basecoat layer, so unlike monocouche corner bead, will not be visible once the render system has been finished.
The corner bead with mesh is also often used around windows and doors to strengthen that area.
Why use Plastic Corner Beads?
There are several reasons why plastic corner bead is preferred by some professionals and DIY enthusiasts:
- Durability: Plastic corner beads are less susceptible to denting, cracking, or rusting compared to their metal counterparts. This makes them a long-lasting choice for both indoor and outdoor applications.
- Ease of installation: Plastic corner beads are lightweight and easy to cut, making them simpler to install than metal beads. They can be attached to the drywall with adhesive, nails, or screws, depending on the installer’s preference.
- Flexibility: Plastic corner beads are more flexible than metal beads, allowing them to be used on curved or irregular surfaces without requiring additional modifications.
- Moisture resistance: Plastic beads are less likely to corrode or rust when exposed to moisture, making them an ideal choice for high-humidity environments or areas prone to water damage, such as bathrooms and basements.
- Reduced noise: Plastic corner beads can help reduce the transmission of sound through walls, providing a quieter living environment.
- Cost-effective: Plastic corner beads are generally less expensive than their metal counterparts, making them an attractive option for budget-conscious projects.
- Easy to paint: Plastic corner beads can be easily painted to match the surrounding wall color, creating a seamless finish.
