EWI Pro Fibreglass Mesh is a robust and essential component in both render and External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems. This mesh is embedded within the cement-based basecoat layer, ensuring that the final render or solid wall insulation system is both durable enough to withstand impacts and flexible enough to accommodate the natural movements of buildings throughout the seasons.
Additionally, the mesh can be used in areas requiring extra reinforcement. Stress patches, measuring 300mm x 200mm, can be cut from the roll and applied at a 45-degree angle to each corner of an opening. This is particularly beneficial in traditional sand and cement areas, which are prone to cracking. Using stress patches in these areas helps maintain a crack-free system for an extended period.
When applying the mesh, ensure each strip overlaps the previous one when embedding it within the basecoat layer. A black marker printed on the mesh indicates the required overlap. For areas needing additional reinforcement beyond standard EWI/render systems, you can use a double layer of mesh. First, embed the mesh in vertical strips down the wall, then embed a second layer of mesh at a 90-degree angle to the first. To accommodate both layers of fibreglass mesh, you may need to increase the thickness of the basecoat layer to 8mm instead of the recommended 6mm.
The mesh is coated with acrylic acid copolymer, making it resistant to water, alkalis, and ageing.
